I believe there really is only one addiction, one craving and one thing that humans strive for.
All the self work and effort for change is in the name of one single thing.
And, the closest word we have to describe this ‘thing’ is freedom.
Now as soon as we prescribe a word to this ‘thing’ we’re craving, we bump into our first paradox…
The word freedom doesn’t do the state we are searching for, pointing too or talking about justice.
It doesn’t even come close to describing the exquisite experience of being truly free.
Following that, the next conundrum we encounter is that we think, largely due to social habit, that this freedom can be bought, achieved or attained through our actions.
Living in a culture fixated on achieving a sense of self worth and status through doing, we apply the same habit and strive our arses off in search of freedom.
Yet the freedom we are yearning for has nothing to do with circumstance, effort or achievement.
This freedom is a stable reality beyond our efforts.
Indeed, it does seem that certain ways of living can support its prevalence, but whenever I touch this state I’m reminded that it has nothing to do with doing.
The truth is, it’s available to every human in every moment.
This freedom is our taproot to life.
It’s our purest state.
It’s the essence, lifeblood and baseline of the one archetype that animates all archetypes;
The Primordial Man.
And when that essence starts to moves, the original and initial movement of our true nature, that’s our primal pulse.
There is an ecstatic stillness when a human is anchored in this archetype and obeying the impulses.
The doing is completely informed and in alignment with the being.
We feel utterly free and that freedom pervades everything we do.
And this is where we can make an immense impact within the world.
Imagine, for just one moment, being connected to that place inside of yourself and allowing that energy to organise your life…
How does that feel? Are there any clouds on horizon of life? Are the any obstacles that don’t immediately invert into opportunities?
I truly believe that this is the one thing that humans are craving.
That this is the root of all addiction and the unconscious end goal of all effort.
And, I think it’s an end goal worth every ounce of attention.
Because when we find ourselves in that alignment…
The only word we have to describe the exquisite experience is; freedom.
And we feel free, we naturally feel at peace.
We feel home.
So with that, I have one question remaining that feels utterly important…
Are your efforts and desires aligned with the place you’re wishing to arrive at?
